ALBATROS SOCIAL CLUB
ALBATROS SOCIAL CLUB
A HUMAN, MUSICAL AND WACKY ADVENTURE
The Albatros Social Club is a wild and wacky human and musical adventure. Amateur musicians with disabilities and musicians from the Nautilis Ensemble take flight to a free world, where the orchestra is the means to dream and dance in one’s head.
The idea is to create a large orchestra under the artistic direction of Christophe Rocher, combining professional musicians from Ensemble Nautilis and residents from the four co-producing structures. Over the course of a year, Nautilis musicians will organize musical workshops within the four facilities, with the ultimate aim of inviting two or three artists from each establishment to perform a final joint creation with Ensemble Nautilis: the Albatros Social Club.
The Albatros Social Club is guided by :
- improvisation,
- Art Brut,
- electronic music,
- instruments driven by devices adapted to the disabled,
- encapacitation, emancipation and inclusivity,
- the collection of participants’ life stories
- the desire to play, to share, to be together around a musical creation,
… and so many other human and artistic things.
Referring to the multi-masted flying ship imagined by Jules Vernes in Robur the Conqueror,, the idea is to create lighter-than-air music by an orchestra worthy of a motley, bubbling vessel. The albatross is, as everyone knows, a bird as self-conscious on land as it is skilful and free in the air.
With the financial support of DRAC Bretagne, Région Bretagne, Conseil Départemental du Finistère, Ville de Brest, SACEM, Henri Selmer France and JLV Sound Paris.
ALBATROS SOCIAL CLUB is a project of Ensemble Nautilis, carried out in collaboration with 4 centers – all VYV3 Bretagne establishments:
- Ehpad du Ponant in Brest;
- the Menez Roual nursing home in Dirinon;
- Jean Couloigner nursing home in Ploudaniel;
- Institut d’éducation motrice de Kerdelune in Landerneau;
The Orchestra (12 to 15 people) will be made up of :
- amateur musicians selected from residents of the 4 VYV3 co-producers, following music workshops. They will play the sensory organ and acoustic instruments (double bass, cello, violin, percussion, electric guitar and bass, etc.).
- professional musicians from Ensemble Nautilis:
Christophe Rocher: clarinets /// Claudia Solal: voice /// Christelle Séry: electric guitar /// Nicolas Pointard: drums ///
The project will be supported by various contributors:
- Philippe Ollivier – Development of the project’s musical IT system https://www.philippeollivier.com/
- Steven Prigent, musician, music therapist, and the animators, psychologists and occupational therapists of the 4 VYV3 Bretagne establishments.
- The teams of activity leaders, psychologists and psycho-motor therapists at these establishments are involved in all aspects of the project: artistic, support, cultural pathways, etc.
- In addition, Ensemble Nautilis will call on Maya Le Strat (collections, audio editing) and Eric Legret (photographs) to collect testimonies and life stories that can be used as material for the orchestra’s concerts (audio processing, projections or photo exhibition).
